This is always the part the wears out on my G3 faster then anything else. Usually I only get about 6 to 12 months out of these so I buy them 2 at a time. And if a rock gets sucked up and stuck in them they sometimes tear sooner. But I tried the other after market diaphragm with the purple ring on it and those only lasted about a month. So back to this OEM part. After reading other reviews about the aftermarket diaphragms, seems like none of them last as long as this original OEM. Although they are poorly made they are still better then the alternatives from what I've noticed.

This item is a testament to the genius of 'planned obsolescence'. I have replaced this diaphragm on my Baracuda pool cleaner several times a year for over 5 years. I ordered this item based on their long life claim. It lasted from July until the middle of August. The claim of "Long Life" is an outright deception. If you examine the diaphragm, you can see that part of the band at one end of the tube is made paper thin, purposely I'm convinced. This thin membrane quickly wears with the vibrating action of the diaphragm and a slit or hole soon appears. If you look closely at the item, you can easily see that this built-in weakness must be intentional.

There is probably a patent or twelve that prevents some entrepreneur from building a stronger version of this essential part, so I don't hold out much hope of finding an improved version. If someone is able to come up with a high quality replacement, I want to buy a lot of stock in their company because they will make a fortune.

It's not just the replacement diaphragm, it's the whole unit that seems to be breaking down after a few years of service. It did a great job at first, but it is as susceptible to becoming tired as the more complicated Hayward vacuum it replaced. At the cost for diaphragm replacements, I will probably go back to more mechanized vacuum when I replace this vac.

The new diaphragm worked for a few weeks, but the whole thing is just not working well.
